Intercultural Competency

The IMSISS programme enables development of intercultural awareness and competency skills by offering students the opportunity to engage with their peers and staff on the programme through workshops and in-class activity, as well as through the programme’s mobility experiences.  This is important in terms of helping students deal with issues of cultural diversity experienced within both the programme cohort and via mobility experiences. IMSISS Associate Partner, Crossing Borders Education, has noted that, “As educators, we have an obligation to support our students and community members in their personal and professional lives by developing their social awareness, intercultural empathy and global competencies”. By working with CBE and a wide range of other partners, IMSISS embeds opportunities within the programme which reflect the fact that many of the regional and global crises experienced today are largely shaped by cross-cultural tensions and our survival depends on intercultural understanding.
